Science Babe vs Food Babe, Let’s get it on! The gloves are off on this one. In one corner you have Vani Hari, aka the Food Babe, a former consultant who is now championing the cause of organic eating while protesting food manufacturers’ use of additives, hormones and chemicals from common everyday foods that we all enjoy eating ans drinking.
In the other corner we have Yvette d’Entremont, aka the Science Babe, a true scientist with degrees in both Chemistry and Forensic Science who loves to talk about actual science and defunct pseudoscience.
If you haven’t notice recently these ladies have been going at it for quite some time. The first shots were fired when Yvette posted an article on Gawker citing that well…Vani is full of BS and with her scientific background she definitely backs up her argument with factual data. On the other hand, Vani does her own investigation and counter argues Yvette and questions her profession on her Food Babe blog.
I’m not taking sides on this issue but this online mud slinging makes for great drama, even their followers get involved by posting their own comments, defending their leaders and providing their own sourced information, now this is some serious engagement!
Despite this ongoing spat, I’m very impressed of their ability to gather data to back their claims. They offered their opinions and managed to defend them with data and links to sources, something that’s very important when trying to gain authenticity to one’s own work.
This reminds me of a phone meeting where a marketing manager is defending a local site she spent a budget on building but when the eCommerce manager asks for data that defends the success of this local site, the line went blank. By presenting her data and graphs, the eCommerce manager won the argument.
So lesson here folks, know your analytics and be ready to defend your presentations, research and marketing strategies with true data, work cites and professional studies. If you feel that now is the right time to optimize your website or target your marketing campaigns towards Hispanics, back it up with solid numbers and sources.
So which side are you on?
