I just completed two MOOC classes over the course of three weeks and I must say that it was quite refreshingly academic in keeping up to date on marketing today.
If you don’t know what a MOOC is, its basically an online class that offers video presentations, assignments and real time quizzes. Once you completed it, you can receive some sort of certificate, which is definitely great on your resume.
The two MOOCs that I completed were from Iversity, an online educational platform from Europe that offers various classes from very knowledgeable university professors. The two classes that I took were were on digital brand marketing and digital and social marketing.
The first class I took, Digital and Social Media Marketing, offers a general overview of the many facets of digital marketing. From organization to social media, this particular class was quite informative plus case studies were based from interviews from real professionals who illustrated their successes with digital marketing from their own organization.
Building Strong Brands, takes a totally different approach, each lesson starts out with an introduction from the professor but from there it’s alot of reading but the documents can be downloaded. Aside from the pages of information provided, I like the human behavior approach to online branding and I can see why marketers perhaps pay for focus groups and studies to come to logical conclusions as to how to sell to a consumer.
These classes are a good start for those wanting to get a better understanding to the promotional side of a product. If you’re a podcaster, former journalist, mom blogger or even a traditional business individual than these are he classes for you.
