Did you ever get that feeling after seeing a particular feed on Facebook or Twitter that you might have read it couple of months ago? Well you’re not alone. I already started removing sites that I thought were really informative but evidently they might have run out of ideas to post so they are starting to post news that are months or even a year old, perhaps to get some more clicks and traffic to the website. I know from some comments that others posted that they know as well that it is old news.
Today’s online community are more media savvy and they know which news could be fake, produced or “recycled.” What is the value of “churning” old news over and over? Is it a cheap attempt to pick up more loyal readers?
I’m not a journalist myself but is this an old strategy that’s been around or is it a new trend since it’s so simple to repost anything online?
Instead of recycling how about re-purposing the information, provide more information and data as a follow up. The goal of online posting is to encourage engagement but a positive one, individuals won’t be too pleased seeing something they read before and they’ll clearly express their disappointment in the comment section.
So what are your thoughts? Is there some worth posting the same news over and over again?
