I’m not very good at math so I would assume understanding and developing code would be the same issue. I decided to take a web development course on Udemy called Become A Certified Web Developer. It is a collection of videos and lessons that covers the more usable codes in building websites from both the front and backend. So here I was delving deeper into the web development realm of HTML, CSS, Javascript and PHP.
I do have some basic knowledge of both HTML and CSS since I studied those when I was in school but Javascript and PHP were new to me and I might as well be deciphering the running matrix codes. Don’t get me wrong, the videos were thorough and instructive but watching a video and applying it are two different things. To input the commands to activate certain structures of the code is indeed a challenge but that’s how it works.
These days it is essential to grasp at least the basic foundation of coding whether for web, mobile or gaming. The industries that these occupy are growing in high demand and I’m glad that schools are stepping up to promote this within the classroom.
Will this bump deter me from moving forward into web development? I understand how it works and most of the time I use CMS programs such as WordPress to build sites. Even if I can’t build a site from the ground up with input tags and commands, at least I would be able to work with a team that does because I know what they are trying to achieve and I can work with them rather against them, knit picking on everything. This slows production down and perhaps get some eyerolls from the developers but with some code knowledge I know the limitations that we face as a team and successfully work around them.
Also as an analyst specializing in search engine optimization, I feel that some code knowledge is important to understand how a website functions in favor of search engine such as Google and Bing.
I do have some web development online classes that I would love to take next and there is no rush. Practice makes purpose.
