I mentioned in one of my past blog posts that learning to code is essential in today’s online media environment. Now, you don’t need to learn code to build websites or mobile apps by scratch but you can learn enough so you can be involved in development projects or just fixing up basic programs, blogs, apps or websites. I’m happy to know that well known celebrities, politicians and entreprenuers are pushing to have code development be taught to younger students through an initiative by the non-profit organization called Code.org. When you go to the website, you have access to a list of online courses where you can learn how to code for free.
Before only junior colleges, tech schools and universities taught coding for computer programs, web design and mobile development but now students from high school and grade school levels can learn to code. Coding at a younger age can definitley lead to creativity, inspiration and technological innovation. There are so many opportunities right now within the online media landscape where coding is key and I think this initiative will help inspire the next Mark Zuckerberg or Bill Gates. Who knows, there’s probably a 5th grader out there that will create the next popular social media platform or mobile platform. The code’s the limit!
