Social media has become an integral part in today’s mode of human communication whether it be in entertainment, business or education. According to all of the studies accumulated so far, Latinos are one of the forerunners of adopting and utilizing social media and mobile technology. One such study is from the 2011 US Hispanic Social Media Guide.
Now there’s an opportunity to bring more social media awareness to the Latino community through education, networking and discussions. Jeff Pulver, creator of “140 Conference Exploring the State of Now”, is coming to Puerto Rico March 27th with his event partner Alan Weinkrantz . The purpose is to conduct a site visit and determine if there’s enough interest in Puerto Rico to hold a full 140 Conference event perhaps in May that would cover Puerto Rico, greater Caribbean region, and Central America. This is a great opportunity for entrepreneurs and educators from these regions to take advantage of using social media communications for very innovative uses.
On the evening of March 27th, there will be a FREE Tweetup with Jeff and Alan at the San Juan Marriott’s Red Coral Lounge from 7-9:30pm. They are going to use the meetup as a “barometer” of the local social media communities interest for a full conference. So the more attendees, the better!
I hope this Tweetup encourages Jeff that Puerto Rico is the first base in expanding social media communities around the region and this might lead to more techno-social conferences as well, especially since Puerto Rico is where I’m from ; ) Register soon becuase there’s 40 seats left!
