DFW SEM Presents Tips On Social And Search

Last month, the Dallas/Fort Worth Search Engine Marketing Association gave a presentation on today’s trends into social and search in the online space. Social media is being accepted as a necessary complement to any business. In fact, social media assists search engines in finding your business on the Internet, particularly Google. A panel discussion presented concepts that illustrate the importance of utilizing different forms of online media to help bring relevancy to your site and eventually drive traffic to it. The members of the panel were Eddy Badrina of Buzzshift, Kendall Shiffler and Giovanni Gallucci, all experts in their field of emerging media. While I attended, I managed to make a list of some great tips that they offered during the discussions, I hope it’s helpful in your media endeavors:

  • Facebook has high engagement but go with where your strengths are
  • Various social media platforms depends on the client situation
  • Develop content that will connect with your followers: Text, images, video
  • When producing and targeting videos, be sure it gets optimized

  • WordPress and Pinterest works great with driving traffic, make them work together
  • Keep scalability in mind when dealing with a web revamp or new site
  • Search will be all about where the people’s interests are
  • Think about what Google will do with your content like images and see how it gets searched
  • Do the research and development that nobody has done and make it work for you
  • Important to participate in the various social mediums. Go where the users are
  • Local is important in mobile industry
  • Google knows you and where you are, even with URL shorteners
  • Spam will never go away just be careful who you respond, all about policing
  • Outsource: Efficiency vs. Efficacy. How do you balance your social media?
  • Manage social media in an industry that you are really familiar with and passionate. Authenticity. Crisis management is also key
  • Social media works great for small businesses
  • Yelp is the Google of restaurants
  • Don’t spread your social media too thin
  • Shared customer service, where the customers are, respond to them accordingly

Wow good article. I didnet know WordPress and Pinterest are a good match. Im learning right now how to use Pinterest. Its really new and hard to find out what will work.

And I like the saying, you can`t produce video`s that will go viral. Viewers make it viral. Thats true but somehow we all try to make a video go viral. Thats the main goal. It also means that the closer you are with your viewers/followers/community the bigger the change it has to go viral. Great information!
